The Boy Scout program includes two main advancement opportunities, ranks and merit badges. Scouts can earn ranks from Scout through Eagle and merit badges are available for over 120 different topics.
Troop 49 supports scout advancement by providing scouts with frequent opportunities for sign-offs and availability of a wide range of merit badge counselors. Advancement is not mandatory at Troop 49 and the program is individualized rather than regimented. Scouts are expected take responsibility for their own progress and set their own individual goals.
Scouts are encouraged to bring their books to each meeting and campout and obtain sign offs as requirements are met.
Troop 49 supports scouts in achieving merit badges in various ways. We participate in various merit badge and advancement opportunities like Merit Badge University and Summer Camp every year. There are also two merit badges into which Scouts are automatically enrolled from their first day with the troop. They are:
